The 2008 season will be the 7th for Bliss Racing. Bliss has distinguished
itself in becoming one of the premier mountain bike racing development
programs in the country. The 2007 season saw steady progress towards a
number of important goals, and the 2008 season looks like a giant step
forward. In 2008, Bliss has become the program others aspire to. As Bliss is a program for youth development, our efforts up to this
point have reached from very young 13 year old riders, all the way up to
those competing in the U-23 division and beyond. Highlights of the 2007
season, and their bearing on the upcoming 2008 season are available on the Results page.
In the 2007 season, Bliss combined efforts with members of GMBC (Green
Mountain Bike Club) to initiate a road racing program. This coming season
Bliss racers will be splitting their time between road racing and mountain
bike racing. Since there are not as many high profile mountain bike races in
the northeast, and because adding the road racing component to a riders
abilities makes for a more well rounded racer (especially in the junior
ranks), we have opted for a schedule that will be divided between road and
off road.
Bliss is also announcing the addition of a feeder program. The “Bliss-ters”
, will be comprised of two groups, 8-10 year old youngsters, and 11 to 13
year old youngsters. There will be approximately 7 to 10 riders in each of
these categories which are designed to prepare the youngster for the upper
echelons. The 8-10 year old program will be mostly geared to fun rides, and
races at Catamount , the 11-13 year olds will be doing more team rides,
learning the basics of training and conditioning, and attending more
races.
The Bliss Racing program is one of 9 USA cycling endorsed and funded
“Centers Of Excellence” which promote the development of young racers. Bliss
has generated a tremendous amount of enthusiasm in the greater Vermont area,
and we are harnessing more and more participation at all levels to aid in
growing the program These new developments and additions to the Bliss
program are important components in its growth and indicate that the 2007
season will be another step in the evolution of the highly successful Bliss
Racing program. |
